Hawkes Bay Homes and O’Briens Plumbing & Bathroom Hastings Development took on Havelock, always a great rivalry. We knew we would be in for a hard game being out there over the bridge on their club day.

The first half saw us playing into both the sun and wind, it was a slow start with a few mistakes by both teams and not capitalising on their mistakes with a few handling errors and basic mistakes saw Havelock go into the break with a 10-5 lead.

After the half with the sun and wind at our backs they boys found their stride with far less mistakes and more determination/teamwork, saw the game swing in our favour. A runaway try to Sosaia getting the troops firing to pull away to a 31-15 lead.

A long period of hard and well fought defence of our line showed the heart and skill of the whole team. The forwards were dominant in the scrums and collision areas and the backs showed speed and strength with ball in hand.

The bench nailed their role injecting some much-needed fresh legs and impact. Havelock finally slipped through our defence on the final whistle to finish the game.

A win out there on their club day was a big bonus for the boys. We face a hard last game of the round against Clive (Prems) this week and the boys will need to dig deep and carry on their great form to finish the round strong.

Final Score: HRS 31 – Havelock North 20

MPV Points: 3 Tommy Kirikiri, 2 Sosaia Tuimauluga, 1 Roomi Kooba
